Talk to us7-Day Medical Detox
If you are worried about stopping alcohol or drugs - or trying to help someone who is - detox should not be faced alone. Foundations provides medical supervision, privacy and round-the-clock support while your body and mind begin to stabilise.
You do not have to push through alone
Withdrawal can feel frightening and unpredictable, especially when previous attempts to stop have been difficult. A medically supervised detox gives you somewhere safe to pause, be properly assessed and receive support as symptoms change.
At Foundations, your care is planned around your substance use, health and current needs. Medical oversight, regular wellness checks, rest, nourishment and human support come together in a calm residential setting - not a busy hospital ward.
Seven days is designed to support acute stabilisation and create a clear bridge into the next stage of recovery. Suitability and the safest course of care are confirmed through a confidential pre-admission assessment.
What’s included
The first priority is to help you feel safe, supported and as comfortable as possible. Practical details are taken care of so your energy can go towards rest, stabilisation and the first steps of recovery.
Clinical support is available 24 hours a day, with regular observation and a team close by as withdrawal symptoms change.
Your history and current health inform a personalised detox plan, with medical oversight by Dr Joy and medication where clinically appropriate.
Regular check-ins help the team understand how you are feeling, monitor progress and adjust support when needed.
A quiet, air-conditioned private room gives you space to rest, sleep and recover with support nearby.
All meals are prepared by the onsite chef, with everyday essentials and toiletries provided so there is less to organise.
Gentle addiction education and group support are introduced as you are able, followed by a clear recommendation for what comes next.
Where you’ll stay
Detox can be physically and emotionally demanding. Your surroundings should reduce stress, not add to it. Foundations offers private accommodation, calm shared spaces and tropical gardens in a discreet residential setting.
You can rest when you need to, eat nourishing meals and know trained support is close by. The environment feels warm and considered while regular clinical review and round-the-clock supervision remain firmly in place.

What the week can look like
Detox is individual, so the timing and intensity of each stage will vary. The team responds to how you are progressing rather than forcing you through a fixed daily schedule.
Arrival and assessment
The team reviews your health, substance use and recent symptoms, then confirms an individual plan for the safest possible start.
Early stabilisation
The focus is on monitoring, symptom support, hydration, nourishment and sleep while your body moves through the acute stage of withdrawal.
Preparing for what comes next
As you feel more stable, gentle recovery support helps you understand the next step and avoid returning straight to the same cycle.

A day in detox
There is a reassuring rhythm to the day, but no expectation to perform. Clinical observations, meals, rest and support are shaped around your symptoms and energy. As you stabilise, you can begin joining gentle recovery conversations and group sessions.

Medical and psychiatric guidance
Consultant psychiatrist
Dr Joy is a Bali-based psychiatrist who supports the Foundations team with psychiatric assessment, clinical advice and medical input where required. Her involvement helps ensure that detox planning considers both the physical realities of withdrawal and the person’s wider mental health needs.
She completed her specialist training in psychiatry through the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia. Dr Joy is a member of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) and the Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI).
For people entering detox - and for families who may be worried about them - her role brings experienced medical judgement to the plan while keeping care personal, respectful and easy to understand.
Clinical care
Good detox care is not simply a room in which to wait. It means noticing changes, responding to symptoms and knowing when a different level of care may be needed. Your safety, dignity and comfort guide every decision.

A confidential review helps determine whether Foundations is an appropriate and safe setting for your detox before travel or admission is confirmed.
Dr Joy oversees the detox approach, with an individual plan and medication prescribed only where clinically appropriate.
Support remains available around the clock, including overnight, so you are not left to manage changing symptoms alone.
Regular observations and daily wellness check-ins help the team follow your progress and respond to concerns.
Meals, hydration, sleep and a low-stress environment support the physical work your body is doing.
Detox ends with a clear recommendation, including a direct pathway into residential treatment where appropriate.
You do not have to know the answer
Whether you are calling for yourself or someone you care about, the first conversation is confidential and pressure-free. We will listen, explain whether medical detox may be suitable and help you understand the safest next step.
Talk to someoneQuestions about medical detox
You can ask questions without committing. The team will explain suitability, timing, travel and what support may be needed next.
No. The appropriate setting and length depend on the substance involved, pattern and duration of use, current symptoms, physical health and other medications. A confidential clinical assessment is required before admission. Some people may need a longer detox or hospital-level care.
People commonly seek help with withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, stimulants and combinations of substances. The risks and appropriate approach differ, so the team assesses each situation individually rather than assuming one detox regime suits everyone.
The seven-day programme includes 24/7 supervision and support, medical oversight by Dr Joy, an individual detox plan, daily wellness check-ins, private accommodation, meals prepared onsite, essentials and toiletries, recovery support as tolerated and next-step planning.
Medication may be used where Dr Joy considers it clinically appropriate as part of your individual withdrawal-management plan. This is discussed during assessment and reviewed as your symptoms and needs change.
Travel should be discussed with the admissions and clinical team before you book or begin your journey. They will review your current situation and help coordinate a safe arrival where admission is suitable.
Detox addresses the immediate physical stage, but it does not resolve the reasons alcohol or drugs became difficult to control. Before you leave, the team will recommend an appropriate next step. For many people, this means moving directly into the Foundations residential rehabilitation programme.
Severe or rapidly worsening withdrawal can be a medical emergency. If you are experiencing seizures, confusion, hallucinations, difficulty breathing, chest pain, loss of consciousness or another urgent symptom, contact local emergency services immediately rather than waiting for website or admissions support.
