Meet the team

People Who Understand the Work and the Person.

Recovery is deeply personal. It asks for skilled guidance, honest conversations and people you can learn to trust. Our team combines professional experience with genuine humanity, so residents feel known rather than managed.

Built from experience, not theory alone

James and Patrick created Foundations around the kind of support they knew could make a real difference: structured, personal and connected to a life beyond treatment.

James, co-founder of Foundations Bali

Co-founder and owner

James

James brings lived experience of addiction and long-term recovery, alongside professional experience across mental health services and rehabilitation programmes in Australia and Asia. Those two perspectives shaped his belief that effective treatment needs both structure and real human connection.

He remains closely involved in daily life at Foundations, supporting residents through step work and mentoring while bringing creativity, energy and a genuine love of adventure into the programme.

Patrick, co-founder of Foundations Bali

Co-founder and owner

Patrick

Patrick has more than 15 years of experience in rehabilitation and community services, as well as his own lived experience of recovery. He understands how much courage it takes to ask for help and the importance of being met with honesty, dignity and consistency.

Known for his calm presence and grounded approach, Patrick works alongside residents with steady encouragement and practical guidance. His focus is always on the individual, what they need now and what will help them keep moving forward.

Dr Monika Joy Reverger, consultant psychiatrist

Dr Monika Joy Reverger, Sp.KJ

Consultant psychiatrist

Dr Joy is a Bali-based psychiatrist who supports the Foundations team with psychiatric assessment, clinical advice and medical input where required. Her involvement helps the team consider both physical health and each person’s wider mental health needs.

She completed her specialist training in psychiatry through the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia. Dr Joy is a member of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) and the Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI).

Her experienced judgement adds clinical reassurance while keeping care personal, respectful and easy to understand.

The right support extends beyond the therapy room

Alongside the core team is a trusted network of professionals who bring movement, adventure, wellbeing and everyday care into the programme. Their role is not simply to fill a schedule. Each experience helps residents practise confidence, connection and enjoyment in real life.

Food and daily care

Our chefs and residential support team take care of the practical details, creating nourishing meals and a calm, comfortable place in which people can focus on recovery.

The professionals involved may vary according to the resident, programme schedule and activity. Everyone working with Foundations is selected for their experience, professionalism and ability to support people with care.

Professional standards. Personal care. No judgement.

Different roles bring different expertise, but the purpose is shared: to create a safe, respectful environment in which people can be honest, do meaningful work and begin building a life they want to protect.
